Sustainability & Diversity at PGDay Austria
We want PGDay Austria to be more than just a great tech event. Therefore, we are committed to integrating sustainable and inclusive practices into as many aspects of the event as possible.
Sustainable Travel: Reduced-Price Train Tickets
To support low-emission travel, we have registered PGDay Austria with the ÖBB Kongresskonto. If you’re travelling to the venue by train, you can get discounted tickets via Austria’s national railway. To get access to the discounted tickets, contact us at info@pgday.at.

Reusable
Lanyards
Our lanyards come without plastic covers and are made to be reusable; to help us contribute to being more sustainable, please return them at the end of the event so they can be used again next year.

No Disposable Goodie Bags
This year, we’re skipping goodie bags and printed flyers to save on unnecessary material. Instead, all relevant info will be shared digitally.

Sustainability & Diversity Wall
We’re setting up a wall for ideas, and thoughts about sustainability, inclusion, and community at PGDay Austria. Feel free to contribute anything that comes to your head!
Considering the Elephant Sanctuary
This year, PGDay Austria is supporting the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust as part of our commitment to compassion and responsible action. While this isn’t a classic sustainability measure, it reflects our broader values. We believe that small actions can have a lasting impact, and we’re proud to include this as part of the event.
Our Venue: Schönbrunn Orangerie
We’re proud to host PGDay Austria at the Orangerie Schönbrunn, a venue committed to sustainable event practices:
• 100% green electricity from renewable sources
• Regional as well as seasonal catering
• Minimal waste: avoiding single-use plastics and favouring reusable materials
• Eco-certified suppliers wherever possible
• Energy-efficient infrastructure for heating, cooling, and lighting
• Excellent public transport connections for sustainable travel
• Certified as part of the ÖkoEvent initiative, promoting environmentally and socially responsible events in Austria
You can read more about the venue’s efforts here.
Catering and Sustainability
In collaboration with our catering partner, we’ve selected environmentally conscious options and regional sourcing:
• We provide tap water instead of bottled still water
• All food and drinks are served using reusable bottles, dishes, and cutlery
• Products are sourced from Austria
• Vegetarian and vegan options are readily available
• A waste separation system is in place at the venue
• We aim to minimise food waste through careful planning
• Snacks are provided by Lorenz Austria, certified as a Green Brand Austria 2024/25
Diversity & Inclusion
At PGDay Austria, we want everyone to feel welcome and represented. Our goal is to build a community where different backgrounds, experiences, and identities are recognised and respected. Here are some of the steps we’re taking to ensure this:
- Code of Conduct: We follow a clear and enforced Code of Conduct to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
- Inclusive language: Our communication aims to be gender-inclusive and sensitive to diverse perspectives.
- Speaker diversity: We actively encourage submissions from underrepresented groups in tech, including women, non-binary individuals, and people from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
- Accessible venue: The event location is wheelchair accessible and well connected by public transport.
- Quiet space: A small area will be available for anyone needing a break from the crowd.
